hello everyone! my name is kori moon & i’m one of philip’s friends. me and phil both have this incredible ability of being really inconsistent at blogging, so about 34 seconds ago i had the idea for us to switch phones and write blogs for each other. without further ado, here is my guest blog for philip.

i met philip 9 months ago at training camp, and oh my gosh so much has changed. upon meeting “baby phil” as i so kindly like to refer to the boy i met in July, i honestly didn’t even know if we would get along. he seemed so different from me and i was so unwilling to give him a chance at friendship, i figured we would just coexist together at most.

hello & welcome to the world race, where God likes to take your plans and completely wreck them for the better (which i’m so thankful for).

about halfway through training camp, phil & i were asked to consider the position of being logistics leaders for our squad. not knowing what i was getting myself into, i agreed eagerly, excited to see what this role would be like.

fast forward to the beginning of the race on a wednesday morning in september. as part of logistics wednesday, philip and i had to plan debrief (a 4 day rest from required ministry to process what the Lord has been doing in your life). the day was semi-normal and kind of uneventful, but we had planned a lot and kept to ourselves throughout the day.
debrief came and went, and as a squad we entered into a week at dunamis (the construction ministry the guys and team tribe had been working at). philip and i, along with kate goeler (our squad mentor) were allowed a day of rest after all the planning we did before and during debrief. i didn’t expect the day to be anything special until kate excitedly asked, “WANNA BUILD A FORT!?” to which phil and i responded, “of course!”. the morning was spent constructing a fort out of sleeping pads, stolen airplane blankets, and spare mattresses. from that point on, we drank coffee, colored, read books, watched a disney movie, and truly rested. i think the reason this day sticks out to me so much is because this was the day i realized philip and i had one very important thing in common: we’re both just a couple of overgrown children who enjoy spicy doritos.

as the rest of the race has continued and i started to get to know philip more, i realized we had so much in common that i would’ve never known if i allowed my heart to be hardened towards philip because of my (very incorrect) preconceived notions. i would’ve missed out on a friendship the Lord had in store for me. throughout the past 5 months of the race, philip has been a friend who the Lord has used to edify my life in so many different ways. if you know phil, you might know he is a deep thinker (the complete opposite of me), but The Father has used that quality in philip to cause me to dig deeper into His word and the calling He has on my life. which leads into some really cool news! philip and i will both be team leading next year together! but philip can tell you more about that in next week’s blog 😉

something i encourage all of you to do (if you don’t already) is be friends with the people you least expect yourself to get along with. being created by God means were created in his image which means we all have something in common, no matter how different we feel we are.

phyllis- thank you for being my friend. thanks for being authenticity and unapologetically a weirdo loved by God.
